Amazing! Thanks, Nicholas Thompson.I love this, and dreaming, which has been a reprieve for me ever since I earned a Master's in Therapy in 2010, which included classes on dreaming, storytelling, sleep-hypnosis. I had a remarkable experience, where Dr. Marlene Mulder (a German Physician who cut cancer out of children's brain's, until she learned that many children could heal, if they were young enough, through hypnotic tales; i.e. medical hypnosis). She and I had a session, which was also related to grad reqs. I had little conscious awareness related to my sleeping patterns, as honestly, up until that point, my primary focus was on winning. Winning in sports, in career; I used poly-phasic sleep and bio-hacking; as well as mentors and coaches to push my body and brain past anything that looked remotely normal, and into everything that was top tier, even consulting with some Olympic Candidates, about how to be better myself. I was largely ignoring sports recovery which occurs when we sleep. And I was totally ignoring the necessity of dreams. I even had a long-term boyfriend who was a therapist while in grad school, and he kept gently pressuring me to sleep and to dream. He wasn't getting through to me, as this TRUISM applied: People Need To Know How Much You Care, and Understand Them, Before They're Open to Hearing You. He didn't get it. He wasn't into performance. But Marlene was, and I heard her.
She took me on a delightful journey while in trance. There were two of them. One was group hypnosis, where all the Therapists & MD's in the room, traveled together, yet on their own. I was on a viking type canoe, with the Captain steering, taking us down the river and into the nether realm. My journey was fun, and beautiful, with kind people, and the river led to Egypt and other scenes. It was cheerful, and empowering.
The second dream state, was in private session. This one, also a journey between pre-birth, to birth, to life, which I continue to feel is profound, every single day since. The imagery ended in a beautiful green field of grass, the sun shining on my face, and cute rabbits bouncing around. I had the look on my face then, as the look on my face when I was traveling doing nature photography in 2020 & 2021. Content joy and happiness. The simple pleasures in our gorgeous world and the Tao.
Before the Google merger, in 2010, I was polyphasic, into pushing my body to the max. By 2016, I was teaching myself to rest, but still pushing too far athletically, as a pattern. Somewhere along the way though, I "got it" with dreaming.
For many years now, I crave the dream state. Whether a 25 minute binaural beat nap, or afternoon Siesta; or even every night when I meditate then sleep; I always wake up feeling great; and love remembering the symbolism in my dreams. It means something to me. Our subconscious mind is an excellent servant. Treat it well; it will reward you.
Cheers to exceptional, fun & profound sleep states & dreaming!
