An Attorney With Heart

This early evening, I felt invigorated, from listening to an attorney. When we spoke, her voice had the right pitch, clarity, focus, and ownership. I immediately noticed it. It held the space, in the way, that only one who is experienced, can.

After consulting with me, I asked her why she wanted to become an attorney. She paused, and even the "pause", was perfect (these things are well studied in linguistics and leadership). She shared that she wanted to be an advocate for the people.

She included a detail about helping, where there is an unfair power advantage on the other side. Finally, there was another pause, and in that space, that silence, is where the real enthralling details always are: the content, the story, the lifeblood of people and experiences that shape us all. Then, she commented on being idealistic when she was younger.

I thanked her for sharing. I wanted to affirm her, for idealism (as in healthy passion vs unhealthy & damaging radicalism), as this is where we get our HEART, our emotion. To e-mote: a physically driving force.

People that are excellent, have heart. It's not charisma, folks.

People who have charisma, are going to test higher on the narcissism or sociopathy scale. It's not a 1-1 ratio; it's a scale. A therapist who is legally allowed to diagnosis - for them it's absolutely transparent (unless they themselves fall on the scale too). The scale (and therefore subsequent DSM), distinguishes between healthy self-esteem, healthy confidence, healthy ego, subclinical ego, and the disorder.

I used to appreciate charisma, until I learned better. Consider that to be wary of it, can be a very healthy thing. I've been looking for people with heart, ever since I learned what I learned.

Know, that where people are in their heart, is where you will find them.

Having heart, includes the factor of an idealistic perspective, paired with advanced education, and real work experience. This unique combination, is rare, and is the embodiment of experts, who are able to effectively create change, in their own way.

I love it. Thank you to everyone, who is like this. You're valuable.

Much Heart, N
