This, is incredibly unfortunate, and also sadly true.
As humans, we must stand together, as eusocial (in empathy), & pro-social (truth & compassion). It's important for ourselves, our families, our cultures, our civilization(s).
When I began writing, in Silicon Valley, it was Teens In Motion, then Yearbook for our High School. After college, published poems. After a graduate program in Applied Behaviorism, I knew I was going to keep studying therapy, and I wrote a commentary on dating. As a woman, this was the beginning of my exposure to Groups that Hate Women, which later led to Groups that Hate Journalists.
The essays I was writing, from interviewing people about their experiences being single and dating in Silicon Valley, I didn't understand, until years later, why I was getting the feedback that I was. It failed to match, therefore made no sense.
There was a man, who I had declined to date. To me it was no-thing. I said "No". That should have been it. I moved fwd. He did not, and my employer at a Private Equity Firm, helped me with a Cease & Desist, Court Letter, & Fraud Filing, requesting that he leave me alone. We thought his motive was financial.
Years later, during an archives merge, and forensic reporting for the State, "we" found letters from him, that I'd never seen before, which referenced the blog that I had written. I checked my writing samples; they were what would be typical of any student. They were a combination of clinical, comedy, story-form, with heart. They were fine. But in his letters, he admitted to having tampered with my writing. So that was it. Light bulb. What he wrote, created a negative, toxic, downstream reaction from readers, which is legally fraud, impersonation, and constitutes a Hate Crime, among other things.
Without knowing what was occurring at the time, I shut down the blog, and deleted online. The promotion of compassion while getting to know each other, a project I was motivated to push forward, didn't matter, in the lens of the targeted harassment, that was occurring in real life, in real time.
The was another surge, in hatred, when I began doing forensics & reporting on Threat Actors, in San Francisco, 2011-2012.
Then in Texas, when I was traveling doing nature photography 2020-2021, I got footage of caravans at the border, who were engaged in trafficking. I was shocked & appalled by what I saw, and wrote reports to law enforcement. My report from 03/11/21, was approved by the AG of Texas.
Ever since, I've cont'd to receive threats, being told I'm receiving them, because I'm a woman; b/c I'm a Journalist; b/c I report Taxes to our State & Federal government. WOW. (I love tax reporting by the way; it helps people.)
There is no room, no place for hate nor violence. Each threat, is a misdemeanor, or felony crime, depending on how it is executed, and which jurisdiction it occurs in. Choose Tolerance Instead.
